Program to commemorate battle’s anniversary

ProspectLibraryPROSPECT — The Prospect Historical Society on Sunday will commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Chancellorsville.

It will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Prospect Public Library. At the end of the program, a wreath will be placed at the Soldier’s Monument on the Green at 4 p.m.

There is no admission charge, and residents are urged to attend the program, which will feature a description of the battle and its effect on local residents.

According to the release, the town lost heavily in that battle, which lasted May 1 to May 3 of that year. Joe Gomez, program chairman, will discuss the immediate and long-term effects of that battle upon the outcome of the Civil War, it states.
