Police-badgeNAUGATUCK — Police arrested two men early Wednesday in connection with a burglary of a Clark Road house, police said.

A man who lives in the house called police just before 2 a.m. to report he was awoken by a loud muffler and saw someone outside holding his tool box, which had been in his garage, said Lt. Bryan Cammarata of the Naugatuck Police Department. The burglar then got into a gray Ford Explorer, which had a passenger inside, and drove away, Cammarata said.

Cammarata said Officer Colin McAllister had noticed the SUV and its loud muffler and thought it was suspicious. As the call came in, McAllister was already following the car, Cammarata said. While coordinating the stop with other officers, McAllister followed the car into Waterbury, where city police assisted in pulling the car over, Cammarata said.

The tool box, a set of socket wrenches and an expired license plate were found in the car, Cammarata said. The plate on display was registered to a different car, Cammarata said.

The driver, 29-year-old Joseph Bromley of 177 Colonial St. in Oakville, and the passenger, 32-year-old Derec Ramdin of 21 Rosette St. in Waterbury, were both arrested on burglary, larceny and criminal trespass charges. They were held on $50,000 bonds.

Bromley was also cited for misuse of plates, lack of insurance and a defective muffler, and was held on another $500 bond for those charges.

Cammarata said while the two men were in custody, they provided police with information on other crimes and police expect other arrests to be made.

Both appeared Wednesday in Waterbury Superior Court. According to online court records, both men were held on a $50,000 and scheduled to appear in court again on March 20.
