On Jan. 30, Beacon Falls police along with representatives from the state Departments of Mental Health and Addiction Services and Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program conducted unannounced compliance inspections of stores that sell tobacco products in town, according to a press release issued by the Resident Trooper’s Office.

The Resident Trooper’s Office issued a $200 fine to the clerk at Beacon Falls Market at 81 South Main St. for selling tobacco to someone under 18. In addition, the store’s cigarette dealer license holder could face an administrative sanction from the Department of Revenue Services, the release stated.

A clerk at Irving Mart at 25 North Main St. passed the inspection in compliance with the law.
