MIDDLEBURY — A rash of car break-ins have been occurring in the parking lot of Hop Brook Lake.

A press release issued by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers New England District stated there have been a number of car break-ins over the last few months in the lot adjacent to the main entrance gate at the intersection of Route 63 and Route 188. The majority of break-ins have occurred during the day and when items where left in locked cars in plain sight. Visitors are asked to keep all personal belongings out of sight and secure in their vehicles.

The recreation area at Hop Brook Lake is closed until April 20, but the area is currently open for visitors to walk.
