Markley, Greene receive campaign grants

The State Elections Enforcement Commission has approved public campaign grants for candidates Joseph Markley and Len Greene, Jr.

Greene, a Republican from Seymour, is seeking reelection in the 105th House District, which includes Ansonia, Beacon Falls, and Seymour. Greene is running against Theresa Conroy of Seymour.

Markley, a Republican from Plantsville, is seeking reelection in the 16th Senatorial District which includes Southington, Wolcott, Prospect, Cheshire, and Waterbury. Markley is running against Democrat John “Corky” Mazurek of Wolcott.

To qualify for the Citizen’s Election Program candidates have to raise $5,000 in small contributions and have at least 150 donors that reside in the towns within their district.

Grant amounts vary. In most races, general election grant amounts are $26,850 for state representative candidates and $91,290 for state senate candidates, according to a release issued by the commission.
