WATERBURY — A 61-year-old woman from Naugatuck died after a tractor trailer crashed into her car on Route 64 shortly before 5 p.m. Friday, police said.
The woman, identified as Pamela Winston, was driving a 2001 Kia Sephia west on Route 64 after exiting Interstate 84 at Exit 17.
Michael Ploch, 51, of Oxford, was driving a tractor trailer east on Route 64 when he attempted to turn left onto Chase Parkway. The truck hit the driver’s side of the Kia, police said.
Winston was taken by ambulance to Waterbury Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead. Ploch was not injured.
As of this post Waterbury Police Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team continued to investigate the crash, said Capt. Chris Corbett, Waterbury police spokesman. No charges have been filed yet.
After the accident, Chase Parkway was closed in both directions from Route 64, near the Middlebury line, to Naugatuck Valley Community College, until 9 p.m.
Also, there were delays on Interstate 84 westbound, as state police shut down the Exit 17 off ramp for about four hours until the accident was cleared.
