PROSPECT — The Resident State Trooper’s Office is looking for a man who stole about $150 in cash from a business on Scott Road and fled in a vehicle last seen heading toward Waterbury.

At 3:42 p.m. Wednesday, a clerk at The Flower Farm, 48-50 Scott Road, reported to police that the store had been robbed by a man who took money from the cash register, Resident Trooper Matt Comeau said. Police are investigating the incident as a larceny, since no weapons were implied or used, he said.

The man went to the business on the pretense of buying shrubs for his sister, Comeau said. While in the back of a greenhouse, the man told the clerk he was going to his car to grab a camera to take a photo of the shrubs to show his sister, but instead went to the other building and stole money from the register, Comeau said.

The clerk went to check on the suspect and saw him drive away, Comeau said.

Police alerted area departments, including Waterbury police.

The man was described as white with a stocky build and dirty blond hair with red highlights. He was wearing a black shirt and jean shorts, and appeared to be sick because he kept coughing, police said.

The man was last seen driving on Scott Road toward Waterbury, possibly in a tan or teal Toyota Corolla with a broken left rear taillight, and the trunk popped open, police said.
