NHS senior named National Merit semifinalist

NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck High School senior Siddhant Shah has been named a semifinalist in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Shah is one of about 16,000 semifinalists nationwide. The pool of semifinalists is comprised the highest scorers across the country on the 2011 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Out of the semifinalists, about 15,000 are expected to be named finalists to compete for 8,300 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million. Merit Scholar designees are selected based on their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in college.
