Democrat John “Corky” Mazurek picked up two endorsements in his run for state Senate last week.

According to a release issued by his campaign, the Connecticut Education Association and the Waterbury Black Democratic Club endorsed Mazurek.
“CEA has endorsed the candidacy of John ‘Corky’ Mazurek because of his strong support and willingness to stand up for students, teachers, and public education. Corky understands that public schools are the cornerstone of democracy and critical to improving Connecticut’s economy. Connecticut residents will be fortunate to have Corky Mazurek in the legislature,” said Sheila Cohen, president of the Connecticut Education Association, a prepared release.

Sean Mosley, president of the Waterbury Black Democratic Club, added, “We need a senator from the 16th District who is going to work for the entire district, not just one small sect of the population. We need someone with a proven track record of fighting for the little people as well as the big, and bringing funds back to the district. We need Corky Mazurek.”

The 16th District includes Southington, Wolcott, portions of Cheshire and Waterbury and Prospect, which was shifted into the district after the 2010 census data was released last year. Mazurek, 59 of Wolcott, is challenging Republican incumbent Joe Markley, a 55-year-old resident of the Plantsville section of Southington.

Mazurek said he is proud of the endorsements.

“I am proud to receive the endorsement from two wonderful organizations” said Mazurek in a prepared statement. “I look forward to working with both organizations if I am elected senator from the 16th District.”
