Borough accepting applications for exemptions

Saturday, September 15, 2012

NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Assessor’s Office is accepting applications for special land classification for preservation of farm, forest, or open space through Oct. 31.

If an owner’s livelihood is derived from a farming operation, that person is entitled to a tax exemption of up to $100,000 worth of machinery plus all livestock and poultry. An owner requesting that his or her land be designated as forest land must file and attach a copy of the certified forester’s report with the application for forest land classification.

An owner requesting that his or her land be designated as open space must first have received such classification from the Planning Commission and be approved by the Board of Mayor and Burgesses. He or she must then apply to the assessor within 30 days after the approval.

The application forms and additional information are available at the Assessor’s Office or at CAAO.com under the “resources” link.
