Spooner House announces back-to-school food drive 

SHELTON — The Spooner House is holding a back-to-school food drive through Sept. 21.

For a list of the most needed items, visit www.actspooner.org. Deliveries of non-perishable food items are also accepted at Spooner House, 30 Todd Road, Shelton, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. To set up a special time for food delivery or pick-up, call (203) 225-0453. Monetary donations are also accepted. Checks should be made payable and mailed to: Area Congregations Together, Inc., Spooner House, 30 Todd Road, Shelton CT 06484.  Donations may also be made via PayPal by clicking on the donate button at www.actspooner.org.

Federation holding veterans’ benefits, Alzheimer support programs

SOUTHBURY — The Jewish Federation in Southbury is holding a veterans’ benefits support seminar and Alzheimer’s support group meeting Sept. 13.

Peter DiMaria of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs will speak about different veterans’ benefits at 10 a.m. He will provide information about VA benefits including service connected disability, VA health care, and Aid and Attendance assisted living facility benefits. Veterans, spouses, survivors and adult children of veterans will all have an opportunity to ask questions at this informative seminar.

A monthly support group for friends and family of people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias will begin at 10:30 a.m. There is no charge for this open and ongoing group, whose purpose is to provide emotional, educational and social support for caregivers through regularly scheduled meetings. Heather Hitchcock, Northwestern Regional Director of the Alzheimer’s Association, facilitates the group. Refreshments will be served.

Golf Classic to benefit Easter Seals

WATERTOWN — The annual Golf Classic to benefit Easter Seals will be held Sept. 18 at the Watertown Golf Club, 246 Guernseytown Road, Watertown.

The $200 entry fee covers 18 holes of golf, green fees, cart, continental breakfast, lunch, dinner, and prizes for both men and women. Tee off time is 11 a.m.

Proceeds benefit Easter Seals programs and services for infants, children, and adults with disabilities throughout greater Waterbury, central, and northwestern Connecticut.
