Whittemore features work of Litchfield County artist

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

NAUGATUCK — The work of Litchfield County artist Janet Newman will be on display at the Whittemore Library throughout the month.

For many years Newman worked as a make-up artist in New York City, exploring and expanding a color palette on “living” canvases until she began painting, according to a release issued by the library. Newman draws inspiration from nature and the personal photos she has taken in her own garden. She works in acrylics and water-soluble oil colors, layering her paintings over days, weeks or months until she achieves the desired depth of color.

Combining her make-up and art backgrounds with her own interest in Chinese herbal medicine and alternative health and nutrition, Newman has created and marketed a skin care and cosmetics line and has conducted seminars for the American Cancer Society, teaching women skin care and make-up application.

This month’s exhibit can be viewed on the main floor of the library, located at 243 Church St., during regular library hours. For more information, call (203) 729-4591.
