Restaurant owner offers to match fireworks funds

NAUGATUCK — The Hills Restaurant in Waterbury and the family of the owner, George Ricciardi, will match up to $1,000 in donations to the borough’s Fourth of July Fund.

Lou Lackman, the restaurant’s general manager and a borough resident, said he and Ricciardi, who is his cousin, came up with the idea after reading in the Republican-American the Parks and Recreation Department still needed about $2,000 for this year’s festivities. While the fireworks are already paid for, the additional money is needed to pay for other aspects of the festival, including a disc jockey and a clown.

Fourth of July celebrations will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday on the ground of Naugatuck High School, 543 Rubber Ave. Fireworks will start between 9:15 and 9:25 p.m.

Donations are being accepted via PayPal on www.naugatuck-ct.gov, or by sending a check to the Fourth of July Fund at Naugatuck Savings Bank, 87 Church St.
