WATERBURY — A 23-year-old woman was sentenced to two years in prison Wednesday after accepting a plea deal in connection to the robbery of a Naugatuck bank earlier this year.
State police arrested Brianna McCarthy, of Litchfield, after they say she disguised herself with a red wig and robbed a People’s United Bank branch in the Stop & Shop on Rubber Avenue in Naugatuck on Feb. 11. As a distraction for the heist, police say 25-year-old Joshua Habib called Naugatuck police telling them a woman was being abducted on Ward Street.
An off-duty police officer spotted their getaway car and called in the license plate, which came up for a home in Litchfield. Naugatuck police contacted state police at the Troop L barracks in Litchfield, whose troopers were waiting for Habib and McCarthy when they arrived home after the robbery.
McCarthy pleaded guilty to second-degree larceny Wednesday in Waterbury Superior Court. She’ll also serve three years of probation after she’s released from prison.
