NAUGATUCK — BoroughFest, Naugatuck public schools’ annual music festival, returns for its 31st year.

The music festival is scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. at the Naugatuck High School auditorium. This year’s concert will feature bands from all levels as well as recorder ensemble of fourth grade students. A guest conductor, Jason DeGroff, will also take part in this year’s festival.

DeGroff is the director for the University of New Haven’s marching band but his music experience is diverse.

“He’s worked with students of all ages as a band director and instrumental instructor so he was the perfect fit for our music festival,” said Kathy Dravis, instrumental instructor, in a press release.

Robert Hughes Jr., the instrumental director for Naugatuck High School added, “It is important for students to work with a wide range of conductors and teachers. It gives them a better understanding of what is expected from musicians and can often give them a fresh perspective on the music they are playing.”

The concert is open to the public and there is a small donation at the door to help pay for the expenses of putting on the festival.

Salem School Principal Jennifer Kruge, supervisor to the music department, encouraged the public to attend.

“Our students are so talented and gifted. This music festival is just one of the ways we are able to showcase their amazing accomplishments and abilities,” Kruge said.
