HARTFORD — State Sen. Joseph J. Crisco, Jr. (D-17) recently reported the recommendations made by the Childhood Immunization Task Force.

Crisco served on the task force and said its final report includes six recommendations for legislative action to address the matter.

“Among our recommendations is one to ensure the state’s childhood immunization program continues to be underwritten by an assessment placed upon the state’s life insurance and health insurance providers,” said Crisco, Senate chair of the legislature’s Insurance and Real Estate Committee, in a news release. “Along those lines, the state must balance cost consciousness with a commitment to provide adequate options for all clients and ensure their children have access to a full range of potential vaccines.”

Crisco said other task force recommendations include the state increase its appropriation to help underwrite the childhood immunization program and broaden its insurance assessment pool to ensure fairness and adequate funding, an ongoing collaboration with the University of Connecticut to study and improve immunization rates, and more broad-based consideration of mandatory provider participation in the program.
