NAUGATUCK – Hill Street reopened at about 2 p.m. after a large tree fell across the roadway, taking down power lines with it and damaging a pickup truck in a driveway, Fire Chief Ken Hanks said.

Authorities closed the road after the Fire Department was called at about 3 a.m., Hanks said. The road was closed for about 12 hours and three or four houses lost power, Hanks said. The tree fell on top of a pickup truck in the driveway of 66 Hill St., causing serious damages including a broken windshield, Hanks said.

The Department of Public Works hired a contractor to clear the tree away, Hanks said. Power has been restored to the affected houses.
