Police investigating early morning burglary on School Street

NAUGATUCK — A borough woman woke up this morning to find a burglary in progress in her School Street home, police said.

Police said at about 4:20 a.m. Wednesday morning officers were dispatched to 59 School St. for a burglary complaint. The woman told police, according to a release, a loud noise woke her up. The woman walked through the home, police said, to find where the noise came from. She found a side door of the home had been forced in and heard noises coming the kitchen police said.

Police said the woman, who was carrying her 13-month-old child at the time, saw a male intruder wearing black clothes in her kitchen. The woman told police she believes the intruder was also wearing a mask. The suspect pushed the woman into a wall, police said, before fleeing through the broken door.

Police said no injuries were reported, and the suspect stole an undisclosed amount of cash.

No further description of the suspect was available, and the burglary is currently under investigation by the Naugatuck Police Department Detective Bureau.
