NAUGATUCK — The state medical examiner’s office has determined that Krzysztof Wojcik, the 58-year-old man found dead Sunday in his apartment at 24 Golden Court, died of a heart attack.

An autopsy conducted today revealed heart muscle disease, coronary artery disease and fatty liver disease, according to medical examiners.

Police found Wojcik dead in his bed Sunday after a friend was unable to contact him or his wife, 61-year-old Danuta Wojcik, for a week. Police found Danuta unconscious in the apartment. She is in critical condition at Saint Mary’s Hospital.

On Monday, Lt. Robert Harrison of the Naugatuck Police Department said Danuta Wojcik’s condition improved slightly, but that she wasn’t able to talk yet.

A message was left with Harrison this afternoon seeking comment on how the revelation that Krzysztof Wojcik died of heart attack will impact the investigation.
