PROSPECT — On April 16, the Prospect Congregational Church is hosting a marrow donor registry and is asking local residents to come out to help save a life.

The registry drive, which is for the Be The Match Registry, will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church, located at 25 Center St. Normally, the cost to join the registry is $100. However, costs for joining are being covered by Michael’s Fund, a non-profit organization based out of Massachusetts, during the drive.

Registration consists of filling out paperwork and getting a cheek swab. To join, people must be between the ages of 18 and 60, be willing to donate to any patient in need and meet health guidelines.

The Rhode Island Blood Center is working with the church to host the event. The center is a donor center for Be The Match, a movement dedicated to engaging a growing community of people inspired to help people in need of a marrow donation. Be The Match was created by the National Marrow Donor Program.

According to information supplied by the church, 10,000 new patients every year depend on the Be The Match Registry to help them find a donor.
