Michelle M. Dowling

Republican

Town Clerk candidate

Why are you running for this position?

“I am the candidate most qualified to step in and carry on the tradition of good service fostered by my retiring predecessor – and supporter – Sophie Morton. My candidacy is a wonderful opportunity to move forward and continue to serve the Borough of Naugatuck.”

Have you held public office in the past? If so, what positions and when?

“No, I have served the people of Naugatuck as the Assistant Town Clerk, an appointed position that is authorized by Naugatuck’s Charter.”

What experience makes you qualified for this position?

“I have served Naugatuck as the Assistant Town Clerk for over 12 years, I have worked, side-by-side, with retiring Town Clerk Sophie Morton, cumulatively learning the various duties of the office. In Sophie Morton’s absence, it has been my statutory charge to fully assume her responsibilities, thus, making me well-versed in the details of every aspect of the job. Most of the Town Clerk’s duties are governed by the Connecticut General Statutes. As the assistant, I have acquired a good working knowledge of all of the laws, procedures, rules and regulations that we are required to follow. During my tenure, I earned my certification as a Connecticut Municipal Clerk.”

If elected, what are your priorities and goals?

“To carry on the tradition of good service fostered by my retiring predecessor – and supporter – Sophie Morton. Every day, we provide countless over-the-counter services and referrals to our customers, primarily on a walk-in basis. That is why it is important to maintain a sense of continuity in the department.”
