A postal employee may be nominated for the National Safety Council’s Million Mile Club if she or he drives without being involved in a preventable accident for a cumulative total of 1 million miles or 30 years of service. ‘We’re proud and thrilled to present this award,’ said Postmaster Douglas Kalahar in a prepared statement. ‘The safety of our employees and customers is a top priority and driving for the Postal Service is a privilege that requires all drivers to demonstrate safe driving practices throughout their careers.’ Pictured, from left, National Association of Letter Carriers President Michael Willadsen, NALC area representative George Laham, Kish and Kalahar. Whitman dropped off a total of 153 pounds, including donations from the Jewish Federation of Western Connecticut. -CONTRIBUTED Ion Insurance President and CEO David Drescher presents a check to Wallingford Emergency Shelter Case Manager Sarah Dolski in June. Ion Insurance Corp., which is based in Naugatuck, donated $790 raised from its Quotes for a Cause program. The program was created to help local Connecticut charities every month by making a donation of $5 for every new insurance quote provided. A different local charity is selected each month. -CONTRIBUTED The Naugatuck U13 boys Elite Extreme soccer team ended the season undefeated in league play and won the SCD CJSA League Championship. The team also swept four games in the Newtown Soccer Tournament over Memorial Day weekend. In the tournament, Zach Koslosky set a record in game one scoring three goals off headers from corner kicks. The team went on to score 12 goals while only conceding two goals. The team beat Fairfield, 2-0, in the championship. Brian Silva scored both goals while goalie Michael Connan shut Fairfield out with the help of an outstanding defense led by Matt Smith, Brian Portela, Waseem Aljamel and Dylan Gloden.
