Annette Balog (bottom row center) was sworn in as club president. –CONTRIBUTED Students from the Naugatuck United Methodist Church High School Sunday School volunteer May 18 at the St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen in Waterbury as part of the United Methodist Church’s national Change the World campaign. The students, who were supervised by teacher Chris Herb, prepared, cooked and served a meal to clients at the soup kitchen. –CONTRIBUTED St. Bridget School in Cheshire held a dress down day to support the 2014 AngelRide, which took place over Memorial Day weekend. Students were asked to donate $1. Fourth-grade students supported Samantha Strell (center) of Prospect by raising over $350. –CONTRIBUTED The Susie Foundation, Beacon Hose Co. No. 1 and the Woodland Regional High School Alumni Association teamed up to host the inaugural Valley Dodgeball Classic May 31 at Woodland. A dozen teams hurled dodgeballs at each other for five hours to raise money for the three local organizations. The Dodgefathers (pictured) won the event by going undefeated in the double-elimination portion of the tournament. Event organizers thanked the Beacon Falls Parks and Recreation Commission, Gabe’s Service Center and the New Harvest Restaurant for their generosity in helping to put on the event.
