Naugatuck Valley Savings and Loan employees Jessica Gonzalez, left, and Caitlin McAllister teach first graders at St. Francis-St. Hedwig School in Naugatuck about where is the safest place to keep their money on April 11. Gonzalez and McAllister were at the school as part of the Teach Children to Save Campaign. A group of 23 Naugatuck High School Air Force Junior ROTC cadets recently cleaned the east riverbank of the Naugatuck River and Greenway in Linden Park and west bank north of the Union City footbridge in Naugatuck. Master Sgt. Gary Morrone, USAF (ret), and Lt. Col.Valerie Lofland, USAF (ret), led the cadets in this effort. This the ninth time this group has completed conservation projects along the Naugatuck River. More than a dozen large bags of light debris, sofa, love seat, large metal pieces, swivel chair and rusted metal debris were removed. The project was organized by Joe Savarese and Bob Gregorski of the Naugatuck River Watershed Association. Student Transportation of America in Naugatuck donated the bus transportation. -CONTRIBUTED
