The Signcraft Red Bulls, of Naugatuck YMCA Little Pal, finished the regular season undefeated for the second year in a row. The team finished 8-0 and have a No. 1 seed in the playoffs which begin Feb. 16. ‘They were a great group of boys that showed much team-spirit and encouragement to each other. They were dedicated at every practice and game and I couldn’t be prouder,’ said head coach Charlie Alexander. American Legion Post 17 of Naugatuck presented 19 boxes of supplies to be distributed to hospitalized vets at the VA Hospital in West Haven on Jan 19. These supplies were collected at a fundraiser held at the Naugatuck Stop & Shop and included toiletries, personal hygiene products, stationery and writing implements and books. Kathleen Robinson shows off her first place award in sparring won Jan. 20 at a Cheezic Tang Soo Do Karate Tournament at Holy Cross High School in Waterbury. Karate students from USA Martial Arts in Naugatuck excelled at the tournament. In the sparring division Aidan Lyons, Robinson, Michele Bernardini, Noah Santoro, Maurice Myers and Javon Lopez won first place. Mitchell Sullivan and Jonathan Velasquez won second place. Emil Lizak and Lauren Mulinski won third. In the weapons division, Nathaniel Smith, Mitchell Sullivan, Javon Lopez and Neil Mascola won first place. Liz Recce came in second as Jonathan Velasquez and Noah Santoro won third place. Grand Knight Larry Hanlon, of the Naugatuck Ojeda 33 council of the Knights of Columbus, presents a $600 check to President of the Naugatuck Ecumenical Food Bank Marty-Lee Fenton Jan. 30. The food bank distributed over 119,600 meals in the last year alone to over 3,000 needy families in the Naugatuck and Beacon Falls area. The money was raised through a Taste of Naugatuck held last year involving local restaurants. The following restaurants participated in the event: Jessie Camilles, Atlantis Diner, Anna Donte Restaurant, Slainte Pub, American Pie, Nardellis Eatery, Tomo 68 Restaurant, Vinnys Pizza , Carrie Weltons, Ayash Man, Dickeys Barbeque and Santos.
