To the editor,

As far back as I can remember I have been passionate about theatre and cinema, attending Broadway and local theatre whenever possible. My first solo trip to New York was to see Brian Dennehy, Vanessa Redgrave and Philip Seymour Hoffman in Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey into Night. They were all exceptional but Philip Seymour Hoffman’s performance took my breath away. Soon after I began seeking out as much of his work as I could find.

His performances have been a joy to me and many others and I’m wondering how we will fill the void created by his untimely tragic death. Each preview of his next performance would fill me with anticipation until I could finally see the film or play.  This joy is now lost.

His talent and the quality of his work are unmatched and he will be greatly missed by so many.  I cannot believe we have lost such a treasure and I will sorely miss him.
