To the editor,

(Editor’s note: This letter is the January Beacon Falls First Selectman’s letter.)

Let me begin by saying I hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday season, and as we welcome in the New Year, may 2014 be a healthy and productive year for Beacon Falls.  It has been a busy month as the new administration has taken over, as we have been getting ourselves up to speed on the issues that have carried over while dealing with the newly emerging challenges affecting all of us here in town.

First among this list are several significant personnel changes to some key positions within the town’s various departments.  In our public works department, two long serving and valued members of our team have retired — our road foreman Eddie Bea and also Ernie Trzaski. Our new road foreman, Rob Pruzynski, is a well-known member of the community and has hit the ground running, as he and the rest of the crew continue to work tirelessly keeping our streets safe for travel in this winter driving season. I can’t say enough about their dedication and professionalism. We have an outstanding pool of candidates and should have the newest member of the road crew hired by next week.

In addition, we have had a shuffling of personnel on our library staff. Our former part-time assistant, Liz Setaro, has moved up to the full-time assistant position, and our new part-time librarian is Carine Green. Congratulations to them both, our library staff continue to work miracles with the limited resources at their disposal, so be sure to take advantage of the programs and service they provide.

With the busy and hectic holiday season behind us, the Board of Selectmen has notified all Departments, Boards and Commissions to begin the budget process by preparing their individual 2014-15 fiscal year budget inputs. Together with the Board of Finance we will be putting together a viable and fiscally responsible budget that will be acceptable to the taxpayers.

Some worthwhile notes include the state police recognition of Officer Caroline O’Bar for saving the life of a resident with her quick medical emergency response and the grant award of $5,000 to the town for an innovative idea to conserve energy.

Please note that my office is always open. You can call the Town Hall at (203) 729-4340 to schedule an appointment with me or email me at C.Bielik@townofbeaconfalls.com.

May all of you have a safe, happy and healthy New Year.

Sincerely,

Christopher J. Bielik
