letters_flatTo the editor,

While the holidays came and we are home celebrating with our families, they are in the war zone fighting for our country. Last year some of our troops were taken from Iraq and sent to Afghanistan, Kuwait and to some parts unknown.

What some of the people back home do not understand is that the Armed Services only provide to our troops the basic needs. While the troops are in the service they have to purchase their own toiletries, clothes and other supplies. The government does not ship packages to our troops.

On Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, a shipment for our troops will be shipped out. I would like to personally thank all the wonderful people that have already donated their time, money and their hearts. Without these people, we would not be able to do what we are doing for our troops.

I would like to thank you all again for the donations that already have been received. They are dearly appreciated and will be used for products and shipping.

For the past 20 years we have been helping our troops around the holidays. Please let us not forget them this holiday. If you would like to donate toiletries, food, cookies, blankets or monetary donations to help offset the cost of shipping, which can be anywhere from $1,000 to $15,000 a year depending on how heavy the boxes are, or have any questions, please call Dolly Lengyel at Personal Pampering, (203) 729-3328 or Joanne Phinney at V.F.W. Post 1946 after 3 p.m.
