letters_flatTo the editor,

March certainly came in like a lion, but settled down quickly and is giving us a beautiful (although chilly) start to the spring. We are certainly looking forward to a great spring season of soccer. The travel teams have begun practices and the rec season is slated to begin the week after spring break. Practices will begin Monday, April 22 with games that weekend, April 27.  The season will run through June 15 and there will be no break Memorial Day weekend.

For U6 and up, coaches draft will take place on Tuesday, April 9 and training will be on Thursday, April 11 at Hotchkiss Park at 7 p.m. This training is for rec and travel coaches.  Coaches will receive their equipment, team rosters, schedules, and sign up for practice times during these two meetings. Coaches training will provide a review of league rules, new drills, etc. Dinomites coaches have their training on Thursday, April 4 at 7 p.m. at the Laurel Ledge Elementary School gym. Coaches will receive training on our eight-week curriculum as well as team uniforms. You should hear from your coach by Friday, April 12 with team schedule information.

We are very pleased to continue the Everson Soccer Skills Clinics this season. Travel team clinics are being scheduled and you will get detailed information from your coach.  For U6 and U7, beginning with the second week of soccer, each team will spend 20 minutes of practice with the Everson trainer. For U8 and up, we will be holding clinics on Friday nights. U8 and up girls will be from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and U8 and up boys will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., both at St. Anthony’s field in Prospect.

We are also very happy to continue to utilize fields in Beacon Falls this season in order to give the fields at Hotchkiss some rest. This season will be a little different and we will be playing at the Woodland High School fields for half the season.  The dates for WRHS are April 27, May 11, May 25 and June 8.

At Hotchkiss field we will have the Snack Shack open for business during weekend games. We are currently looking for volunteers to help man the shack on Saturdays.  Please consider donating some of your time before or after your player’s game to help support PYS. If you are interested in helping, please email Shannon at skotsaftis@comcast.net or stop by the snack shack during the first week of practice from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m.

Finally, please that Friday, April 5th is the last day to register for Spring Soccer.  Also, remember to submit your payment for the spring season online at prospectsoccer.grupo.la or mail it to 50 Waterbury Road, Box 333, Prospect, CT 06712. Payments must be received before the start of the season.

As always, we welcome you to our monthly meetings on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Prospect Firehouse. We hope you have a great start to the season.
