I would like to recommend to the voters of Naugatuck a person of proven leadership and character worthy of consideration for the position of burgess. That person is Matt Katra. Matt is a young man who has been involved with town government and community service since moving here in 2001.

Matt is a graduate of Mansfield University in Pennsylvania where he received a Bachelor of Science in computer information systems. He has been employed by IBM and where he will celebrate his 10th anniversary this May. At IBM, he has advanced through several positions and is currently an IT architect and team leader of 32 employees.

Matt became a member of the Zoning Commission in 2005 and served until 2009. As a Zoning Commission member, he was instrumental in the creation of the Downtown District as well as the New Haven Road and Rubber Avenue Design Districts.
In 2009 , he was appointed to the Finance Committee where he is still an active member.

It is in this position that his concern for the town and its citizens is most apparent. His goal in serving the taxpayers of Naugatuck is to be attentive to borough spending and reduce it, where appropriate, eliminate wasteful programs and invest wisely in borough infrastructure. He understands that in these uncertain economic times, the borough should not waste monies on duplicate programs and careless spending.

As to community service, Matt is a member and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. As a Knight, he has volunteered at the St. Vincent DePaul Shelter in Waterbury, participates in the Memorial Day Veterans Mass at St. James Cemetery, helps annually raise funds for the Special Olympics, the mentally challenged and other local charities.

Matt is the type of responsible person who would serve Naugatuck well as burgess.
