BEACON FALLS — Woodland Regional High School’s theatre will soon transport audiences to the tropics with Caribbean music and choreographed dance.

The club will present the musical “Once on this Island” March 30 and 31.

The story follows a peasant woman named Ti Moune as she saves a wealthy man from death and nurses him back to health. Moune begins to fall in love with him and believes they can overcome their differences in class to lead a happy life together. However, things start to become complicated as the gods interfere with Moune’s life and plans.

“It’s a really great play, especially for this cast. We are doing great things with it,” said Eric Gomez, who plays the God of Water.

Katie Steimbacher, who plays Moune, enjoys her character.

“Ti Moune’s so innocent. She loves life. She is a happy person,” Steimbacher said.

This production will be the third time that director Sean Lewis has been involved with this play.

Lewis felt that this play is accessible to all of the actors, from those who are veterans of the stage to those who will be performing in their first play when the curtain rises on “Once on this Island.”

Lewis believes the play is one that high school students can really get a good grip on. It allows them to come together while learning their lines and dance routines.

For Alyssa Korzon, dance captain of the musical, that has happened.

“We’ve all grown close as a cast. We’ve become a family,” Korzon said.

Once on this Island will open 7 p.m. on March 30 with shows at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on March 31 at Woodland Regional High School. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
